The Parish Council serves the village of Whitfield and the smaller communities of Church Whitfield and Pineham to the North of the A2 trunk road, which dissects the Parish, and Old Park, Archer’s Place and Elysium Park to the South of the A2. Located just outside the busy port of Dover, it has good road links and is well served by local bus services, making it a convenient place to live, whilst still being out of town. The village of Whitfield, roughly triangular in shape, is bordered on two sides by farmland and on the third side by the White Cliffs and Port Zone Business Parks.
There are good local amenities. The Whitfield and Aspen School is a thriving primary school with superb facilities for children with a range of learning disabilities. The local secondary school is Christchurch Academy, together with Aspen 2, situated on the very edge of the parish’s boundary with Dover.
St Peter’s Church, dating from the 10th Century, is set in the beautiful Kentish countryside at Church Whitfield. Whitfield United Reformed Chapel is situated in the village in Chapel Road. The Living Well Church holds services at their new Church in Willingdon Road.
The village has a sports pavilion, well-equipped play area, games court, football pitches, outdoor gym equipment and BMX track on the Recreation Ground. Local amenities include a convenience store, with a Post Office, a hairdressing salon, fish and chip shop, Indian restaurant and takeaway, doctor’s surgery, veterinary surgery, hotel, McDonalds restaurant and a carwash and valet service. There is also a farm shop at Church Whitfield and a very popular Farmers’ Market held once a week at the Village Hall. A large supermarket with a petrol station and DIY Stores are located at the White Cliffs Business Park.
At the heart of the community is the Village Hall, which hosts many group meetings and social events. There is also the Old Park Community Centre, serving part of the village that used to be an army barracks. The village has WI, dance and exercise classes, Over-60s Club, Gardeners’ Society, art and craft groups and much more. There are playgroups, Brownies, Guides and the Christchurch Academy Youth Club for the younger villagers. The hotel stages entertainment and theme evenings for the local community. The Archer public house offers good food and provides live entertainment and sporting activities. The Whitfield Club is a members’ club for local people and it too offers music, a function room and skittle alley. The Kittiwake offers a daily carvery in its family friendly restaurant.
